400% & 100% Bearbrick set, Barry McGee

Barry McGee emerged from the Mission School art movement and the graffiti scene that flourished in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990s. His work is strongly influenced by a critical and often pessimistic view of urban life, which he describes as a mix of “urban problems, overstimulation, frustration, addiction, and the struggle to stay balanced under the constant pressure of advertising.”

McGee’s artwork is instantly recognizable, featuring bold central characters set against abstract backgrounds made up of drips, patterns, and vibrant color fields. He has exhibited extensively in a wide range of galleries worldwide and has participated in major international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale. As a result of his growing recognition, much of his street art in San Francisco has been removed or stolen over the years.
