The Process, by Christiana Vardakou
- Plant Gathering & Garden Cultivation
The natural dyeing journey begins with the seasonal collection of plants—both wild and cultivated. Dye plants like marigolds and woad are grown in the studio garden, while others such as eucalyptus, broom, acorns, and heather are foraged from the Greek countryside. - Repurposing Kitchen Waste
In collaboration with local restaurants, natural kitchen scraps—like avocado pits and onion skins—are collected and transformed into vibrant dyes, supporting a circular and low-waste production model. - Natural Dyeing
A slow and thoughtful process where plant pigments are carefully extracted over hours or even days. The result: rich, earthy, non-toxic colours that are biodegradable and ever-changing with light and time—imbuing each fabric with depth and individuality. - Bundle Dyeing & Eco Printing
Through bundling fabrics with flowers, herbs, and leaves—or applying heat and pressure—organic shapes and hues are transferred directly onto the cloth. Every print reflects the life and spirit of the plants used. - Batik Technique
Influenced by time spent in Bali, the traditional batik method is used to create layered, wax-resist patterns with a painterly, timeless feel. - Sewing & Finishing
Each piece comes to life in the Athens-based studio. Violetta and Maria, trusted collaborators, handle the sewing and finishing with exceptional care and attention to detail—honouring the values of quality and craft.
